La letra de cambio es un documento por el que una persona física o jurídica (librador) ordena a otra (librado) que pague una cantidad a favor de un tercero (tenedor o tomador), en una fecha determinada (vencimiento).
The bill of exchange is a document by which a natural or legal person (drawer) instructs another (drawee) to pay an amount in favor of a third party (holder or policyholder), by a certain date (maturity).
• The drawee is the person issuing the letter. If a business relationship arises from the drawer it is the seller. (You must sign)
• The drawee is the person who normally pays the letter. Following the above example would be the buyer. The drawee to be committed to pay the bill has to accept it. Acceptance is a formal acknowledgment of the debt, the letter becomes due receivable or payable.
• The holder or policy holder is the entity who has to make the payment, ie who collects on behalf of the issuer (financial intermediary).
